Thats abit harsh mate, Gary has contributed alot to this forum. He loves his S2000 he even fitted Nitrous to it!. I can understand the points he raises about the MX5, they are a capable car in the right hands and dirt cheap now.

Don't do it Gary (unless you are really female and called Sharon or over 50 )

Seriously though I have driven an mx5 and get the whole "handling less power thing" but they are way less special than an S2k and are are far more common. The styling is very "girly".

Each to their own but hell would freeze over first before I'd do what you are proposing too

S2ks are great for running costs. Tyres aren't that bad. Fuel economy is acceptable. Says me doing 3K a year

MX5s are going up in price in Japan - numbers are reducing there, and in the UK too due to accidents and rust. It's very difficult to find a good one without rust.

Fresh imports are now a very highly valued commodity, with good ones fetching up to £5k - not an exaggeration either, two have sold for a few quid less in the last few weeks. If anyone is genuinely interested in obtaining a completely rust free import, let me know and I'll refer you.

If anyone here does dabble with the MX5 fraternity, avoid the following 'companies' like the plague:

Solent MX5 - he sells complete and utter dogs and will try to shaft you - he's also a complete and utter cnut.

Scuzzle Motorsport - Owned and run by a greasy haired dreaming child - crashed a customer's car, wasn't insured, left the scene - also a cnut.

Mazda Mender, Autolink UK, and Dr MX5 are all very reputable.

IME, the MX5 is twitchier at the limit than the S. If I were shorter, I'd get another 5 in a heartbeat.

Stick a front lip and lowering springs/coilovers on a Mk1, and it looks far from girly. Mk2s are girly, Mk2.5 Sport less so. Mk3 needs to be lowered so they don't look like a bar of soap on wheels - crap engine. Mk3.5 with a VVT engine is an excellent choice. Folding hardtops add a LOT of weight, but make a lot of sense too.
