I had a UK Impreza for 4 yrs prior to the S2K.

In my honest opinion the Impreza is much quicker simply because by the time you have changed to a suitable gear in the s2k the Impreza will be on the horizon using the extra torque available.

Whatever the published figures say, the Impreza gives a hefty shove in the back when you put your foot down, something the s2k simply fails to do.

Then, as for corners don't even try!

If I had not had an Impreza then I would have found the s2k very fast indeed but since I have, I don't!

No shove in the back? What gear are you in?

In all published tests, which usually involve thrashing a car, the S is faster, 0-60 and 0-100 than a standard Impreza, old or new. Standing kilometre etc, same story. In gear is harder to separate and I would agree you MUST be in the right gear in the S. You might find an odd discrepancy in published tests but the figures don't lie.

Can't involve P1s or other chipped models or you might as well strap a rocket on the back of the S and compare it to a 911 Turbo.

Corners? Massively driver dependent. My dad in a P1, me in an S - he's got no chance, he just wouldn't go for it. There are endless scenarios. But in a straight line, it's much more about the car alone. Me in a P1, Schumacher in an S - I win every time.

Like for like, for standard models, the S is the faster car.

Fair enough but....

I have owned both so I am able to give an objective view.

Owning, not being like borrowing means that you learn how to use the car to the best of its/your ability and I know its not a popular statement on this board but the Impreza is quicker a-b then the S2000!

Not that this matters much anyway in my opinion! The cars are so different that they cater for different tastes.

Other observations in the S2 favour are better gearchange, better built, no roof.

For those that want this put to bed once and for all then let me know if you want to attend a track day with the SIBC (Subaru Impreza Drivers Club) and I will arrange for you and the matter will be solved either way ( but I know where my money is going!)

I agree scoobydoo

I think the standard impreza not as fast on the motorway though.
Does anybody know the in gear times(30-70,40-80, 50-100) of the S2000?
These are the figures that matter in the real world.

Good point Steve. The other thing is that because of the unique nature of the F20C engine, it gets unfairly compared for torque with engines of much larger capacity simply because the performance figures of both cars are similar, which is really a load of old bollix!!

So true. They compare a 2L NA car against a 2L turbo / 3L straight six and they whinge about torque ! 237BHP, 208lbft - how about comparing it to, say the RenaultSport Clio 2L - 172BHP, 148lbft, or, the Golf 2L GTi - 115BHP, 125lbft, 0-60 10.5s (how they have the gall to call it a GTi, I'll never know).

Funny, i just check the board after having a run in with a P1 and find this thread at the top!

Anyways, yeah, i just a (relatively minor) run in with a P1 and i wouldn't say.....as has been suggested......that they eat us up......here's how it went anyway......

I'm coming up to a roundabout on a dual carriageway stretch, keeping my eye on a young lad in a GTI6 who'd been theatening to do me for last few miles .....then as i enter the roundabout, teetering on 2nd ready to blast i get this bloody great big blue P1 in mirror. Thankfully that was prior to exiting so i had some time to compose myself!!....

...anyway, hit the exit and floor it - he's up me like a rocket - not only cos he probably stamped on it way before exiting but they are rapid in the early gears. So i redline second while he's seriously on me, but as i go through 3rd gear vtec at about 70 he's suddenly lacking and basically "only" staying with me. I redlined 3rd, 4th and 5th and pants'ed it at about 130 as we entered a slight bend.....course he was all the more willing to stay on it through the bend - and i must say, just seeing the stance of the P1 taking the bend at that speed looked awesome, but i think the S came out of the encounter with full marks.

And as the GTI6......well, i let him through at the next roundabout
