A great article and I agree with most of the sentiments.

I will "do the ring" one day (although that does sound like one of the Carper or Bada's posts) but it will be for fun, not a great laptime (unless it's faster than anyone else in an S2000 )

Well, he's just talking about what we talk a lot of on here. Track vs road.

Very different skills needed for both.

Good grief!

James May talks exactly the same sort of bollocks I do; not only do I agree with him totally, I like his writing style!

It seems as if the style settles down with practice; younger writers are usually terribly gauche. Which is why I refrain from reading most of the usual magazines any more.

I think I should pop up the road & buy him a beer...

In the lat 12 months the "Ring" thing seems to have exploded even further. Probably due to Top Gear and manufactuers obsession with using it as a marketing tool. Subaru, Aston, Vauxhall and others make cars with the badge on it, and countless others use it in advertising.

I can't think this extra exposure is a good thing for those of us who want to use it.

I've always thought that.

I agree.

And the Honda/Nissan/Porsche phall club has just made it a bit silly-willy waving.
