Jaguar XF
I've seen a few on the roads with several non-working LEDs in the rear tail-light clusters recently. These cars a relatively new, so hardly a great recommendation for LED longevity - at least in respect of the stuff JLR specify and fit.
I'd be interested to find out how much it costs to replace the tail-lights on the XF, as I suspect repair is not an option... much like a friend's friend who bought a used A4 which had a similar issue with one of the headlights; several of the white fairy-lights were dead and the cost for the new unit was c. £700 IIRC.
These issues do nothing but reinforce my perception that JLR products are still crap from a quality perspective. I'm sure I'm not alone.
Interestingly prior to Toyota launching the Lexus the brand in the US, they undertook qualitative research to determine what was important with Luxury car buyers in the US and what affected their perception of quality. A notable response was the ignition key; flaking chrome was considered a indicator of poor overall vehicle quality. Consequently Lexus ignition keys were manufactured to a standard to ensure the high-quality finish was long-lasting and not produced down to a price. Fantastic attention to detail IMHO. It's a pity a different ethos prevails at JLR.

It's rarely the LED units - it's Fraud MoCo's shit canbus.
Client spent three large getting FREDs to work the brake light on a Galaxy! Wrote it off in fact.
Another reason I detest moderns.
Had to change a headlight blub (H7) on a mate's late-model Volvo recently. I've NEVER changed one on a Honda/Mazda (except where another car got stuck in it or I've fitted rice lights). Yet newish Euroboxes are frequently one-eyed.
Can the yerpeans not make anything properly any more?
No wonder they're so keen to point the finger (or stick it up) at poor Toyota...

I can't imagine it's a CANBUS issue if only one or two LEDs from the entire cluster of tail-lights LEDs are not operating; much more likely to be a failure of the cheap-as-possible individual LED in question I'd have thought. But then again...
You're dead-right about moderns; I'm increasingly tempted by a '60's Fiat 500 (with Abarth bits from MBG) or a 'proper' Mini Cooper S as my weekend plaything.
I get the feeling that Toyota are having one stuck up their trousers legs by the US automotive Industry
.
Have a look at the recalls on things like RR sports, the list goes on and on
The combined life of my 2 Hondas is approaching 17 years, not replaced a single lamp yet, my Work fiesta is 18 months old and has 3
Had anew LR Defender once, oh dear never again

Chippo; absolutely! It's all to do with championing Government Motors & trashing the gooks who unpatriotically bummed Pearl Harbo(u)r.
Pol - yes; it may be crap LEDs. A bit like those dodgy Chinese caps that nearly bought down Dell & are a time bomb in everything from NSXs to DVD players.

Astons suffer it as well (may well be same supplier as Jaguar having been specced in the Ford era)
Very rare the unit fails if it does it's a row out usual because moisture has killed the power regulation to that row.
Also very rare they are repairable

I actually like the XF as a drivers car, its like the 5.0 XKR well thought out with a good design concept.
Just let down by build quality and brand perception
I've not driven one, but it certainly is stunner & gets excellent reviews.
Not my sort of thing, but I'm sure I'd have one over a German breeze block any day.
In view of that, do they have an image problem? I realise you have to be Mr. Dead to drive an old XJ, but the new one's also a bit of an eye-poker.
Surely now they're owned by Tata, the embarrassment of the Fraud connection's gone. DEW98 underpinnings notwithstanding...
