I've got an XF, fortunately with all the LEDs still working. According to the XF forums, it is a bit of a weak spot however if there are any blown LEDs the entire lighting unit will be replaced by Jaguar under warranty. The warranty period is 3 years IIRC.

The XF has really grown on me, although it's one of those cars that can look stunning in one colour and very ordinary in another.

Chippo; absolutely! It's all to do with championing Government Motors & trashing the gooks who unpatriotically bummed Pearl Harbo(u)r.

Pol - yes; it may be crap LEDs. A bit like those dodgy Chinese caps that nearly bought down Dell & are a time bomb in everything from NSXs to DVD players.
You're not wrong.

My previous Meridian DVD-A player had three power supplies which failed. They were Indian manufactured switching power supplies populated with mainly Chinese components - it was a capacitor which failed on each occasion.

Recently the power supply for my DVDO video processor has been replaced for the same reason.

Apple had an issue with power supplies for early PowerBooks; I've went through three on a Pismo.

It would be somewhat ironic if the Chinese brought down the entire Western world, not by ideology or military might, but by means of a humble electronic component, made to lowest possible cost to satisfy the pursuit of maximum profit by Western customers...

To steal/paraphrase an old Billy Connolly joke about the Japanese and Walkmans. "One day you'll be walking along with your iPod headphones on and suddenly the cord will tighten around your neck!"

I cannot discern any significant difference between ideologies in reality, merely sophistry. And military might is a bit of an oxymoron due to expense of the damned things. So it's gonna be the third way anyway.

So to a large extent, it's playing into the hands of US bigotry; a lot of the dodgy caps had sleeves over them, passing them off as reputsable japanese brands.

But the point still stands: when the great electonic fall-over occurs, whether it be a giant solar flare or a cheap chinese takeaway, a large proportion of the human race will be fu cked.
