Default Jaguars

Every time I sit in traffic behind a Jaguar XJ or XF, I get to thinking that there's something 'weird' with the cars.

I may have identified what it is that is causing me to think this - it's the Jaguar badge/logo.

The logo is centred on the car, but with the word 'JAGUAR' omitted, its asymmetrical shape looks really odd, and what compounds its 'odd-ness' is the Jaguar appears - at least to me - to be 'leaping' in the 'wrong' direction; it would be visually more comfortable leaping from left to right.

The brand's original logo had the Jaguar leaping from right to left, but was used with the word beneath.

This is the actual rear of an XJ:

And here is my laterally inverted logo:

Several years ago I worked in collaboration with a very highly regarded branding agency in London who had undertaken the a revision of the Jaguar logo to make it more contemporary, and I am sure there was considerable market research carried-out to 'clinic' the logo (and presumably its orientation...), but it just doesn't 'look right' to my eyes.

Now that's another OCD I'll not be able to get out of my brain. Maybe I'll imagine a Hello Kitty sticker instead.

At least the modern ones don't have the lower valance lines so high, they had to stick on another lower valance beneath it.

If they can ever fix the FREDs, they'll be good.

Hadn't really thought about it before but there is a "clash" in the lines at the rear.

All the lines flow inside to out as you go down top to bottom. Your eyes want that to continue but at the point you get to the lights they're pulled inwards. Pinches the rear slightly and dead ends your eye line.

Swipe me.......he paints with light............someone please put a v8 in front of me stat!

For the UK RHD market the jaguar is jumping the wrong way - I agree.

However for a LHD driver in the major US and Chinese market it is jumping the right way????

Discuss.
