Well they used to profile the cams so that at lower rpm, they'd give a good flow rating.
But at higher rpm, they actually throw the valves off contact with the cam lobe! Basically like VTEC but without the valvetrain masses!
Obviously, the faster the RPM, the bigger the throw!

Ahhhhh ok. Most camshaftes do that to some extent..............question is it deliberate or not


I distinctly remember Alesi saying something similar to that after a race. Loved Alesi, he was a fantastic driver erratic, and was always on the edge (quite often over it). He never seemed to be in the right car at the right time either.
