His was 195 IIRC. Just throttle bodies AFAIK. Was a newer model.

On it's current tyres, mine has power oversteer with just 150bhp, so 200 should be plenty, just need to sort the speedo out first.

True Didn't Mikey boy get 220bhp out of the Vauxhall 2.0L ?

Very quick to 70mph
The Vauxhall engine, the red top, is a very strong engine and an old school friend of mine bought a Westy that had Cleland's old BTCC engine in it producing 270BHP. SBD who put it together said it could go to 300 but would need rebuilding more often. The biggest problem was grip (10" slicks and it would still break traction in 1st 2nd & 3rd ) clutches and drive shafts.

SBD also have a 300BHP version of the 2.0L Duratec so getting 250, that is still reliable and easily driveable, shouldn't be too difficult. There are plenty of good tuners who can do the work.

I've been thinking about an engine swap, but the Duratec exhaust is on the wrong side i.e. driver side, and it just doesn't appeal.

A Honda K20 or Rover K series, and before you all start about the Rover K the problems are curable and once done you have a very light engine.

Pretty expensive to acheive too. I'm aiming for about 200 from my 2l. Should be interesting enough
If I may ask without causing offence, what motor are you using?

Why would that cause offence?

Some people like to keep the details of their motors away from competitors.

2.0L Zetec is what I've got in my Westy.

It's got a Raceline shallow and bafled sump, light flywheel, Raceline exhaust manifold and collector with a wunoff (who I can highly recommend) can, with a Raceline Water Rail, which improves cooling and is nice and tidy,ARP bolts, Jenvey ITBs, Bosch cream injectors and DTA ECU.

When I collected the car it produced about 169BHP, which I understand is fairly standard for this setup. Over last winter I had the head ported and polished and some fast road / track cams from Raceline fitted. I've yet to get it on a rolling road to confirm but this set up should give me 200BHP. The parts and work for this was less than a grand, although removing and replacing the head was done with the assitance of a friend for rather less than garagr rates.

The ARP bolts let me rev to 8K reliably, although I set the limiter to 7,500 for normal driving and only increase it to 8Kfor track work. To get more than 200bhp you will need to start changing the internals such as stronger springs and pocketed pistons and this start to get expensive, which is why I stopped at 200.

Let me know if you want more info.

By the way, where's Jo?

some good stuff.

Will be going a simliar route I think. I have a mate who owns a garage and has had a string of Ford engined (Cossie Turbo) track day cars and who charges me mates rates on all the work I have him do

Not sure if mine has a rev limit set. Rev counter goes to 7k, have been near there a few times Not sure of the spec as the guy I bought it from didn't know much. But the sump has been butchered to be much lower/higher, but I don't know if its baffled.

I was working on the basis that I'd spend about 1 -> 1.5k overall on the car (exhaust and engine), but the tax man has just seen to that, so I'll be doing it gradually

Are they good in Japan then?

It depends on their compound but they seem to be OK in the wet but bad with standing water.

Good luck with the drive home and get used to a grin that just won't go away.
