I think the 2.3 was aka the I-4 (SOHC) & later the DOHC (!!).

It was the old pinto block with a non-iron age head & a properly-counterweighted crank.

It was the first proof that Ford could make decent engines & not crude shit, if they ever CBA.

The Vauxhall 2.0 was very well-regarded & a tad lighter, IIRC.

This tactic was working very well once I got out of Leamington (where the rain collected nicely on my lap), waterproofs are what they say they are

Then on the M40 I gave it too many beans and snapped the throttle cable Just looked into what it takes to fix it and it'll set me back the princely sum of <

Actually, Westfield have a very good service relationship with customers. As they're so small they generally help out on most queries (not too many customers to worry about) and there are only one or two people to call (Mark in this case) whose direct lines are available

That said, they'd probably charge me

Thanks, I'll consider it. But the break in the cable isn't due to the outer.. its a basic design flaw in the mechanism by which it connects to the accelerator pedal.

I'll be having a think about what will prevent it happening again.

These 'high performance' cables.. are they for motorbikes? can you expand on what makes them so good?

I have a couple of mountain bike and motor bike shops within a 10 minute walk of where I keep my car, so can easily investigate both options

The current owner phoned me yesterday to warn me about the brake pads (race pads which need warming up) as he was worried I'd stack it into the first roundabout..

Anybody know how much warming up they need? I assume I'll need to keep them warm on the motorway for those "i need to brake heavily" moments - anybody know how often to drag the brake pedal a bit??
