I really cannot be arsed with the guy. He's another McLaren robot and he's precisely what F1 doesn't need.

And Montoya was blacker than him.

what other option did Mclaren have.. another season with Pedro de la Siesta?
They were worried about putting in a newbie, and actually thought long and hard about Hakkinen. As both drivers would be new to the 2007 team, they thought bringing in The Hakk to one seat would help produce some sort of continuity.

That's a bit dubious I know, but someone who used to drive for them should in theory be better than introducing a complete stranger. They obviously opted against that though, in the end.

I can see the logic in that approach, but I'm not sure Mika would be hungry enough anyway.

Precisely, which is why I said that Montoya was actually blacker. It's silly to make the point in the first place, but I'm pretty sure if you compared them that Montoya's skin was darker. Who cares though?

There haven't been any blackies to date because there weren't any good ones. Now there is, and he's in the sport. Why make a spectacle of the fact he's black? He's just some guy like the rest of them.

I feel sorry for the boy though. He's clearly proud of having got to where he is what with his "terible affliction", but he will never be able to say how he feels about it, nor will he ever be able to express his true feelings on anything for as long as he drives for McLaren. The press conferences I've seen him in have been excruciating.

Every time he's asked a question, there's a pause, a hesitance before he utters each word. Every one is calculated, as the McLaren diplomacy algoryth is applied to it, so not as to offend any sponsors and to eliminate any impression of independant thought.

though at least we don't have the NASCAR style post win interviews.. where the driver guffs about every sponsor and person in the team giving him such a great car today..

It doesn't matter who Mclaren have in the second seat I just can't see them producing a good enough car next year.
