what about a bristol?
very interesting cars, but I only like the old classics, and I don't think one of those wouldn't be suitable

as well as being too expensive

Or an old Silver Shadow with Christler badges!
not ruled out (apart from the Chrysler badges)

I bought and sold a Bentley a couple of years back and quite liked it (classic shape, not footballer chav shape)

Do you really want to rule out a Bentley Phaeton?

It is 99% Bentley if you get the W12 version.

But it does just look like a slightly porky passat from the outside.

I'd rule out a modern Bentley

let alone the VW version!

I've found myself idly looking at M5s again. Nothing at all wrong with what I've got but I've just got that itch again, and I came close to buying an M5 in the first place.

I suspect I'd live in constant fear of something big going pop though. And I'd probably wince every time I looked at the trip computer and saw the fuel consumption....

A lot of car for outrageously little money these days judging by a quick scan of the PH classifieds and the 'Trader.

good ones exist

my tip would be to only buy one with a huge wad of recent bills

otherwise you will be the one to cop a big bill

I've not heard of well maintained engines or gearboxes ever going pop (outside of early warranty failures)

so, if you buy a car with good history, running perfectly with everything working, with recent new tyres and brakes, there's nothing outrageous to fear

I wouldn't touch one under

M5s always tempting (as well as RS6s) what with the great performance etc. but I can't help thinking I'd "enjoy" the luxury of the A8/Lexus/etc. more. Sign of getting older!! Unfortunately (in a nice/good way) it may be a forced choice but I'd like to keep the S for a while longer.

Sorry, hijacking the thread a little

Merc CLS
Other, less desirable barges:
Skoda Superb
Peugeot 607

my thread - you can digress a little

you may not introduce Skodas or Pugs......

if you know comfort is key - don't go for the M5

it's only 'comfortable' on glassy roads

anywhere else, its ride is harsh

RS6 (like all Audis I have driven) is numb and no faster than the M5

19mpg quite acceptable given the performance IMO.

If I were only doing a few thousand miles a year I'd have an M5 in a heartbeat
