Luxury barges

my thread - you can digress a little
you may not introduce Skodas or Pugs......
if you know comfort is key - don't go for the M5
it's only 'comfortable' on glassy roads
anywhere else, its ride is harsh
RS6 (like all Audis I have driven) is numb and no faster than the M5

Back op over summer, will see how I will be long term hence the choice might be forced. Ride quality becoming more appreciated, that could be back related or getting old

Sports cars/fast cars are for the fun of driving.
The right luxobarge is for the pleasure of driving.
Don't do the mileage for it to really be a problem so will decide in the new year but like these threads as it's food for thought. As I said earlier, A8 or LS430 for me I think. New A8 soon (apparently) so see how this will affect used prices. New LS looks very nice imo but out of my budget!!!
Drove a hybrid Lexus GS a couple of years back, it has a certain appeal, the new LS has a 5.0 hybrid. Fast, silent and rather reasonable economy. I think it's potentially a better way to go than a diesel barge but only Lexus doing them at the mo.....

19mpg overall
but i am sure you can get that lower.
p.s. you are right about travelling faster than the s2000.
its so easy.
p.p.s. i dont mean its easier to go faster than my s2000 because the r8 is better.just that its so easy to do so because of the t####e and power and stuff.
Don't see the point in an S8 for this job Gad, A8 with magnetic ride and the Bang & Olufsen stereo system imo. The S8 premium isn't worth it when you already have an M5. Although an S8 sorely tempted me as well, better economy than the M5, just avoid the ceramic brakes, pointless and unbelievably expensive.
Volvo S80 used is likely to be quite cheap but it's depreciation will remain in freefall for it's life. Good car though, the most recent model handles nicely and is very comfortable, all volvos must have cruise control, winter pack and an Auto gearbox or it wont sell. There will be a few of the V8 exec models around and will be probably the cheapest of the lot.
Lexus? I don't think so.

what about a Jag XKR or even a newer XF?
i would also try a phaeton before ruling it out, they cost more to build than they sold them for and if you're thinking of the audi...
there must be some big mercs other than the s class?
there are some bargain masers knocking about
if you want something comfy is there anything with air suspension? we had a citroen breifly with this, best passenger ride i've ever experienced (crap car though).
