I know what you mean but fortunately I don't conform to the "typical BMW owner" stereotype.
As I get older I've come to appreciate a little "executive frippery", though it takes nothing away from the excellent drive.

I could see myself also wanting a few creature comforts in a road car in a few years also.
I still think that BMW make some great motors, ever since I first heard that wonderful metallic rasp of the S14 during their touring car domination era.
I just struggle a little with the baggage that comes with a Beamer nowadays but I could likley live with that with the right car; no such hang-ups with track use though

I've always thought of the newer BMW's as being great engines that are stifled by modern day executive frippery, an automotive comprimise tailored to the shirt and tie brigade; the CSL being the standout.
I considering the Z4M Roadster and Coupe along with the CSL last of the breed, none are geared towards smoothness or the shirt and tie brigade tbh.
The CSL is obviously the purest incarnation apart from the gearbox of course, but the M Roadster and Coupe lack BMW's I-Drive and nine million settings for the gear change/steering/power output, the feel of the E86 Z4M is totally different to the M5, M6 and new M3, its old school in a way BMW just don't do anymore.
for a Z4 that looks not too horrible.
i read they're supposed to be a great drive, maybe, just maybe i could live with the tinkered looks.
i'd never clean it though. it reminds me of that minger off eastenders

The Z4 styling has always appealed to me - the very long bonnet and short tail remind me of Cruella DeVille's car. It's a fascinating amalgam of curves and discordant lines (and amazing pressings) which make it a really distinctive car. Not pretty, but very, very attractive.
IMHO the styling-crime on a Z4 is the shocking roll-hoops behind the seats. I'm guessing they were designed at 4:59 pm on a Friday when someone in the studio remembered they were required for production on Monday morning...

Agree about the roll hoops, but for me it's the front end. The car looks great in profile (especially the coupe) but the front end spoils the look completely.
