M3s are fast

With a few mods - the S can comfortably hang with a stock e46 M3.

I can concur with the M5 v S2000 battle. I was handed my arse on a plate on Thursday evening. That being said, he didnt pull away from me at the rate I thought he would - and considering the speeds we were doing I would be suprised if he wasnt trying!
It was awesome though and has made it onto my more practical alternative list - in fact I was looking on the PH Classifieds at them this morning and some high milers are starting to dip down to the 10-13K mark.

Well myself and PJL were slaughtering lots of "better" machinery at the weekend at Donington. It's all very well having a better car but you've got to drive it properly. I was passing 996 GT3's that were on "hot" laps. More like luke warm.
Please, if you're going to get a better car, learn how to drive the fecking thing.

people buy cars for other reasons than extracting the most performance they can from them
whether it's a footballer's wife in her Aston
or me in my Ferrari
the basic issue in this debate (I thought) was the respective capabilities of two cars
based on the assumption that both cars were standard and that drivers would be equal
good for you that you were able to put inferior drivers 'in their place'
whatever that proves
but I take it you'd concede that a driver of equal ability would have put YOU in your place if the machinery stayed the same?
on the road, you can put Michael Schumacher in his Focus TDi and he will not stand a feckin chance against me in my M5
that's all most people want

There were a couple of (I'm guessing stock) M3s at Bedford in April and they passed me easily, although not as easily as the 911 turbo that was there!
I was also passed by a few S2000s but it took them a lot longer to catch and pass me, despite the drivers being faster than me (obviously).
In short, the M3 is a much faster car than the S2000, and so it should be, given the power to weight advantage and cost differential.

This was on the track, it's different on the road. Although I still hold the same opinion.
It's just my point of view. I'll freely admit that part of it is the green eyed monster and it will always annoy me to see a car I can't yet afford not being used to its full ability. Particularly on track.
They may be having as much or more fun driving at 5/10ths as me at 9 or 10 10ths. But I like to see these machines being used to the full.
I personally don't agree with the concept of owning a car for status or prestige. A car to me is either a mode of transport to get from A to B or it's a piece of performance engineering designed to be used to its full potential. This is a very black and white view, but it is mine.
