I tend to look at these things in monthly cost terms vs the quality of the car you are in

so that's a service cost of under £30 a month for the last eighteen months

you've driven my car - doesn't seem expensive does it?

ok, there are other costs to factor into ownership, but overall, it's reasonable for the performance, etc
As I said, seems pretty reasonable, cost for the car - can't argue with that.

How many miles have you done in those 18 months?

That's got to be pretty important.

In my old 325i (E30) I was having at least 2, if not 3 services a year.

All main dealer, so I suspect the running cost were higher for me purely because of the mileage I was doing.

I ended up spending £800 one year just to get an MOT on it!

Another year to go IIRC.

"A car for 5 years" or something similar

People don't believe a lot of things I say I'm going to do

How will they cope with that Ultima?

Let alone the Z car

(not the Nissan job)

81000 at last service ((I've been busy)

I forgot - had to spend £180 getting some belts changed last May after one snapped

but have mislaid bleedin' service book, so now need to get a duplicate

Will you include the warranty work done on the car in the totals?

That might skew the total ownership costs a tad......

I will

But I will also separate them, because apart from the excesses, I didn't pay them

I may also split the costs from when the last warranty claim was settled - about three years ago

all in the interests of giving someone all the factors they need to consider if contemplating ownership

I had Ralston on the phone the other day contemplating an Übersaloon as his Gayman replacement.

Unfortunately he has about £5k and a requirement for trouble-free motoring that won't cost the earth, plus the capability to tow 1500kg of race car and trailer.

His shortlist included a 10 year old E55and an M5.

I can't quite believe it but I seem to have talked him into getting a Volvo.......

Our Legacy has cost me a grand total of £275 excluding insurance and petrol this year.

It will need 4 new tyres pretty soon though.
