Interesting about the Mazda Ro80 replacements - I didn't know that.

As for longevity I had heard that the rotor housing, and tip seals, fare much better (EG may last more than 50k) if driven with high rev's all the time as this prevents "chatter marks" forming on the internal surface.

The thing about this engine design IMO is that its not using its natural advantages (compact size/weight v power output) in a car application as heavy as the Mazda. I had heard that at one time it was being developed by Norton motorcycles not only as a bike engine but as a target drone engine (where it was planned to whip the opposition because of the high power ouput/low weight/low cost).

Interesting. I've just looked on the Trader and I thought they were a bit cheaper than that

FD is the one to go for. Unless you want a track or drift car then go with the FC IMO.

Mmm, RX7... Mmmm.

I do like the idea of them. Like a very fast S2000 with a hardtop - so my ideal in theory!

That is refelected in the second hand prices, as they are bloody cheap compared to similar stuff.

I dont like the idea of rotor rebuilds, nor the fuel economy though.

I haven't tried one but they never appear to do very well at all in all the jap track tests.

They are massively inefficient as standard, but a friedn who has a 500 bhp one reckons they dont seem to use any more fuel when running big bhp. They have a very nice power and torque profile due to the inherent design of the engine.

I'd like a nice Bathurst model with the fixed front light conversion

PS - they are very very cramped.

Cheers for the links. Didnt realise there were so many models. Oh forgot to check are the FD models all twin turbo? Because I went to get an Insurance quote and the list that came up for the rx7 had either Twin-Turbo(Import), Twin-Turbo(UK) or Turbo Coupe(Import)?

Engine rebuild is the thing thats putting me off to . Im gonna take a look at RX motors ive heard there good.

RX7 FD3= great handling, great looks, rebuild at 50-60k, shocking fuel economy and and expensive ownership experience.

But i'd still like one.

The twin turbo models were the "Spirit R's" only, which were import only and the last of the 3rd gen's. And naturally the most sort after.

From memory they did the RA, RB, RX and RZ. The Bathurst Edition was a one off special to celebrate three wins in a row at Bathurst

I think you are running out of time if you want a fully functional, unmolested example

I'd say you've already run out of time. Such a car no longer exists.

Don't know an awful lot oabout these cars, but during a very recent visit to see Chris Franklin he was telling me that he'd worked on one of these recently.

He said the suspension was absolutely amazing and was a full race set up. Going on this I imagine the handling is bloody excellent.
