Thumbs up Mobile Speed camera on M56

There was just a mobile speed camera on the M56 and was in my girlfriends car with her and possibly going a little over the speed limit, however I wanted to check something.

It was a policeman standing behind the camera (not a van, his car was just at the end of the bridge) and the camera was pointing straight at us, so as below, arrows indicate direction, ignore the lines that's just to put everyone in the right place:

_______________< POLICE
_______________========BRIDGE
US >

Does that mean that they were actually pointing at the other carriageway? Also further down the road an X5 police car had pulled a merc over - does that suggest they were measuring just to pull large offenders over?

Thanks for your help guys just wondering.

IIRC they spot speeders from the top and then send their 'runners' out to catch people on scene.
I'm sure they have many techniques for catching speeders though!

Good luck!

Was it a camera he was pointing at you or a speed gun? The camera needs to be on a tripod and not moving.

If it was a speed gun then he will have had a mob of angry cops in Volvos on the other side of the junction. If you're not sure just wait for two weeks and don't worry about it .

Pretty sure it was a device on a tripod - so I guess a camera but as I said X5 has chased someone down other side of junction too. Thanks so far

Might not be checking for speed... could be other things. Road tax etc

Could have just been doing a speed survey, my wife sometimes goes out and does speed survays to assess true average speeds of roads and consider the options regarding reducing speeds/accidents at accident hot spots.

In Lincs they use scameras on tripods.

Doubt they were checking for VED as the DVLA do that now.

I would think it was plod checking for speeders - if it were handheld they would have sent a car, if on a tripod I would think it was a camera

Good luck and fingers crossed.

If you weren't doing much over 80mph on the speedo you should be safe.
