To move on or not to move on?
Echo, I still also maintain that those paper thin Probax seats are the best seats i've ever been in. Even on long 3 hour stints they are massively better than the S2000 seat. For me it was really the noise and visibility. Mine was a Sport model though, but I think the touring soundproofing was just some mats?

You don't need a garage for a Caterham - plenty of them live outside and get used regularly...

Yes, the touring pack has some carpets & i think the leather door cards (not forgetting the luxorious scrotum pouch under the stereo), so i suspect tis quieter than performace pack equipped car. Anyway the ball & chain didn't complain about the racket last year so at least she made it all the way round France rather than being dumped at the side of the road for whinging.

1. Must handle as good as or better than the S
2. Straight line performance at least as quick as the S
3. I've had plenty of years of open-top motoring, so this isn't essential
4. It is a car for fun only, not a daily driver...
5. ...that said, it must be able to do a trip to Europe reasonably comfortably
6. It must be reliable
7. Most importantly, it must be at least as much fun to drive as the S - the driving experience is paramount.

Insurance companies are increasingly problematic, as will be spares in the UK.
So I settled for the 335i bmw coupe, or how about the new M3?
So far so good...
FD2 is actually a good idea - can't seem to find one for sale within easy reach though? As you say they're too rare. But I need something that handles/grips as standard as well as my (deceased) modified S.
A new M3 is a bit rich for me.
I've thrown a cat amongst the pigeons by test driving the Evora, now I'm completely confused.
Insurance comparison: Modified S £2k; Exige S £1.35k; Evora £1.4k...

I haven't even seen a VXR8 on the road - from what you say, yes it does look great value for money but a little ostentatious for a fairly reserved guy like me!
I'm 32 MB, the insurance is due to two fairly hefty claims within five years now I've trashed my S, and the fact I can't garage a car at home, building in my area is too controlled to have one built too. I've always had high insurance though, I'm sure there's a black mark against my name on their database
Comprehensive review of the Evora to follow, but in short, I could hardly sleep last night due to the dilemma!
I need to try an NSX to bring everything into balance...
