Hi all, I am going to see an MR2 tonight (2000) with a friend and wondered if anyone could tell me if there is anything I should be looking for?

thanks

Track toy?

Bibbs knows a fair bit about them, can try PM'ing him if nothing useful pops up here.

I ran one for 2.5 years. Very reliable, check for alloy corrosion, same as we get, you'll be out of warranty so you'll want a clean looking set. Roof is good, but if you don't drop the windows before putting it up, the roof will leak, so feel the outside side of each seat. Check for wear, and "ears". Ie if you fold it down does it have two ears sticking out at the back two corners. If they don't it's indicative that the owner knows about the car and has been looked after. However it's not a problem if it does. But check for general wear anyway on the roof.

A/C was a cost option, do NOT get the SMG, and if it has a H/T and no A/C then it's after market as the H/T only came with A/C in the UK. The only other real option was Leather.

Single exhaust was stock, mine never needed replacing, but you could get an official 2 exit jobbie from TTE, which could be got from dealers from about 2004 onwards.

Stock tyres are Yokohama Advan A034 (classified as a track tyre but not too expensive) or there was some bridgestones, check on spyderchat.com.

The front boot is NOT waterproof

Don't know much about the mk3 MR2 .. I'm a mk2 person.

Best bet is to get on ROC - www.mr2roc.org , they should have a buyers guide.

Have not heard of any serious issues, they don't have the lift problem of the 190 engines (as they are all the 140). Only things like alloys rotting under warranty,.

And if you didn't know, the engine is in the Celica 140, the new Elise S, and the Toyota Corolla. The engine is pretty much bombproof in standard tune.

One other thing its a 2000 plate for 5000 but parkers reckon it worth 6400 so that looks a bit dodgy
