The engine trend is clear. The days of low stressed NA with scope for after-market tuning are numbered. The manufacturers are able to squeeze more out of less quite readily by adding snails (s/charger and/or turbos). More is being squeezed out of the same quantity of hydrocarbons so what comes out in waste is reduced.

The 'price' is complexity. Which can be taken care of by manufacturing progress and economies of scale. But of course no one can calculate the incremental step £green cost in industrial complexity and moving and assembling more parts, whether done by humans or robots. What is the £green cost of a robot? And so on. Course, they don't sh*t so that's less methane

Although the individuals car's emissions are down, who knows if the overall picture is?

I give the same conundrum to those who insist on turning lights or computers off at every opportunity. Yes, you're saving on power but the green 'cost' of fabricating a new mother board is huge!

Best committed to memory and viewed as one chapter in the annals of automotive development.

Let's hope Tesla generate (sorry about that...) the economies of scale to get the prices of their vehicles to a more accessible price-point.

125 mph and 3.7 seconds 0-60 makes for the Roadster Sport is more than adequate.

I can see a market for sound-tracks. External exhaust sounds.

Although the energy required would probably p*ss off the PC greenie brigade and sound-tracks would be banned.

Turbocharged reciprocating engines combine the efficiency of a Gas turbine, with the flexibilty of recipros.

Even F1 cars will be going back to turbos in 2013.

DI fuel pump issues will continue to be a problem.

It's why they put lubricating oil in DERV, but you cannot do that in petrol.

I'd stick with indirect, personally.

A case of wait and see I reckon, it'll probably do all the right things and make all the right noises turbo or not.

Has there been a duff M car yet?

Apart from that X6 monstrosity.
