Default New beater time!

I have an Audi 100 panzerwagon as my beater, and it's been bloody great.

115k miles and it's really nice to drive. Plus you can fit a shit load of stuff in it. Lately i've spent it's equivalent value in bits and bobs to get it past it's MOT, but I feel it's days are numbered. It doesn't like being left for long periods of time and struggles to start.. I could fix it but upgrading will add some excitement to my life

So I reckon I could get

That said I have been looking at bloody CRX's! Do the seats fold down?

Overpriced example.

Also I think a decent Civic might be an idea.
i got an early CRX as a beater and it is just a hoot to drive, but i have done a lot of work to it

these cars rust unless you get a jap import and they seem to fetch good money for a vtec version

there are B20's out there which is a hybrid CRV engine with a B16 top end and if built properly will produce 220+bhp and huge amount of torque

CRX-UK

and yes the rear seats fold down

I resisted the idea of a quick 'other' car as it would dilute the feeling
when I get the Lotus out.

Civic VTi's a sort of 'Teg for the real World (sorry Gad!) but like the CRX, rocking horse shit.

You might pick up a 4WS Prelude, which is an experience worth trying.

I hope it wasn't you in a silver blue Prelude yesterday near Soton?

Seemed to think he was quicker than an E46 M3 and an E39 M5, and coming to an accident near you soon........

No; mine's:

But yes, I probably would be terrifying tall, narrow 2WS stuff round roundabouts and slippery bends and things!

Actually, a dark blue E39 M5 came past me in the 'Lude through Hertford the other week. Looked good, but I didn't bother to tage along behind.

Ikobo's CRX reminds me of the new one on theose wheels!

Interesting...

I'm liking the CRX idea more and more. Would have to be the older one rather than a Del Sol though.

EG Civic VTi would be good too, although a lot of them get chavved up.

You do have a point Russ, but a 1.6 CRX would be suitably un-fast compared with the Exige, so something of that ilk would be good.

Nick, the Prelude would be good but it's bigger and will have more stuff to go wrong potentially? It is newer, on the otherhand...

I'm enjoying this

Presume a well looked after 100k miles CRX will be ok?

Not for 2 large; it'll be quite old!

'Ludes are merely a bigger/heavier photocopied version of the EG/EK platform; you'll recognise the PAS reservoir, etc.

Yes, dry solder on the 4WS and main relays causes tears on older cars, the FICV and Idle valves can be problematic, and hurried shifts bend the 5th gear selector, the clutch cylinders die of neglect. The odd balljoint wears, because idiots like me think they should corner F1-style.

But this is Honda-relative reliability, not the usual crap.
