New cars are too fat!
I have just been reading this weeks Autocar, and two cars came to my attention. I really wanted to like the bew Alfa, but its soooo fat, quite gutted really:
1) Alfa Brera 3.2 (1765kg / 256bhp / 150 bhp per ton)
2) BMW 335i Coupe (1600kg / 302bhp / 189 bhp per ton)
As a comparison the Nissan 350Z has 300bhp and weighs 1545kg. Now I thought the 350Z was a great car, but it deal feel lardy. I just can't believe how fat and slow the Brera is... it can't even get to 60 in under 7 secs, and it's got 4WD.
Interesting to note that at least Audi have reduced lard. The new TTC 3.2 will weigh less than the R32 and come in at 1470kg which I was very impressed with and over 50kg less than the last model.

There is a Mk1 Escort (interiorless mind) on the cover of Classic Ford this month with 170bhp x-Flow engine turning out 250bhp per tonne .. 600kg for those that can't be arsed to work it out. Serious fun, but slightly lacking on the practical side of things.. like a boot or somewhere for ANY passengers to sit, let along things like ABS/ESP/VD

I have to say that 810kg for a hatch back may seem like a good idea, but it's hardly acceptable in an accident.
I would like to see a solid hatchback or coupe with RWD, 280bhp - 350bhp and weighing 1200-1300kg.
I think the new Audi S3 should be quite impressive. 270bhp, and a lightweight 2.0T FSI engine. I would hope that it will weigh under 1400kg. It will also have a 60:40 RWD split of torque. Should also have Golf GTI handling.
