Arrow New discs after 20k

Is that normal ?

I've got this week off, so I was half asleep when I just took the call. But.
We dropped the crv in at the stealers for it's 24 month (free) service last night. I just had a call telling me that the front pads AND discs are badly worn and in need of replacing.

I'd guess not unless it is either an automatic (and even then this seems excessive), you are heavy on the brakes (possibly in conjunction with lots of towing) or there is an issue with the brakes...

Even then I would normally expect that if the pads were worn then the disks the disks should last for another set of pads...

They did the same thing with Kate's CR-V.

Rang her when the car was in for a service and told her it needed 4 new discs.

Fortunately she called me before she said to go ahead. I called the service manager and asked him to explain why a car with rear drum brakes needed new discs.

We didn't take the CR-V or the S2000 back there.

Ask them what the measurements are....

No problems on our CRV and it is over 30k miles.

Replacing pads/discs needlessly is one of the most common scams of the motor trade.

I recommend you always check them yourself before taking the vehicle in.

Sounds like bollocks to me!

We had a set of fronts scored to f uck on a 17,000 mile 106 and the pads weren't even 1/2 worn. That's why we don't bother with French rubbish no more...

My S2000 is on its original disks after 40,000 miles of total abuse and the Civ's were only replaced at around 60 because one kept warping.

About 2 years after the dealer said the 'Ludde's pads were worn, I put the new ones in!

This sounds like a common theme if we are talking about the current MY06 > CRV. A colleague of mine has just had the same thing and they were discusted / amazed, especially as their previous CRV was faultless

The rear discs on my S were replaced under warranty for excessive corrosion after I complained when they tried to tell me mine needed replaced.

Worth a try.

Shouldn't wear out after 20k miles on a CRV regardless.

They sometimes take the line "will need to be replaced before the next service" and replace bits far too early. Unless you have an automatic 20K seems far far too little.
