Default The Next Logical Step?

Having recently sold my lovely S2000 to prop up a house deposit, naturally I'm starting to think about what to replace it with when the time comes. Would be interested to hear from some previous S2000 owners (I know there are some on here that still frequent the forum) that have replaced it and with what.

I'm struggling a bit to be honest, I don't think it's going to be anything that will handle as well or be as lightweight but hopefully it will make up for that in other departments.

Budget will be up to £20k when the time comes but I'd need to really want the car to spend that much, would be happier around £15-£17k. Things I am considering so far -

BMW M6 (MY05-07) - Wouldn't mind scratching the luxury GT coupe itch, not to mention the V10! Would also purchase a warranty.

SLK55 (MY05-07) - OK so it's an auto, but a V8 merc with a great sound track. Pretty to my eyes, a 2 seater convertible like the S2000.

Monaro - Seems like a lot of car for the money, but a bit agricultural? Also not sure I could live with the interior.

Things I am not interested in -

Lotus Exige/Elise
Cayman S/Boxster S/911
M3/M5
GT86

The irreplaceable s2000.
M5 V10 ... why not.
But already discounted. So many go for a z4m, worth a shout as is the Mercedes you mentioned.

The S2000 was my stop gap for a Z4M, but they have since got rather expensive. You are probably looking at near £20k now for one with low mileage and a decent exterior/interior colour combination. I am of course talking about a coupe which is the only one I would want.

I like an M5, just don't have the need for 4 doors and prefer the looks of the M6.

If £20k is stretching things 5-10% pa on warranty might seem tedious

Find Phil's M6 thread on here and ponder that. I run my M without warranty but that's my risk choice

Just got a quote with warranty direct for their most comprehensive warranty, it was £918. I'd be happy paying something like that.

Buying expensive motors at the lower price range is a bind. Like nott says, if the difference between 20k and 17k is important to you, fuel,,warranty and consumables will bust your balls. Fingers crossed for a clutch

I didn't say that it will be a stretch going to £20k, I just would rather spend something nearer £17k but for the right car would go up to that. £17k is pretty much midfield for an M6 the age I am looking at.

Can I get some more car suggestions rather than this turning into a debate about running costs and consumables?
