I went to the speed awareness course this morning . It was absolutely shit.

I will always take points in the future.

Patronising, uncontextualised claptrap.

Wait until you get to the bit that talks about 2nd and 3rd gear through 30 limits 'so you don't speed'. All the stupid bitches in there with newly furrowed brows as if they had been given a nugget from God. I couldn't hold silence any longer and got into a discussion with the course runners asking them to ensure they disclaimed that statement. Make sure people know that driving around in those gears isn't the be all and most be considered with some thought. This worked out quite well as people started to say 'my car tells me to change gear on the dash'.... I could see why I pissed them off so much as it turns out a chunk of the course was based on the use of gears to keep you slower. What the fook powers these people.

I did make sure they confessed to their points though. They spent a lot of time saying speeding helps no one, etc, blah. I asked if either had ever been convicted. One said during her running this course, no. This lead me to repeat the quest. Have you ever been convicted. She had. I asked the other, same, she had previously had 3 points. Only did it to make the group question the trainers

Complete crap. Switched off at 1.5 hrs. Would have played on my phone but they said if we did they would ask us to leave and would state we didn't complete.

Wait until you hear all this shite about distances that have no place in real life. I can't remember what they were but I think you need to leave about a mile between everything, absolutely everything, cars, flies, electrons.

Trust me when I say don't do this course.

The A9, with its inherently dangerous stretches of single lane then dual then single etc., is being considered for average speed cameras over its entire length. Cheaper than making it all dual carriageway, this will make it a very tedious and even more frustrating journey.

Are they not going to lower the speed limit for wagons to 40 too? If you ask me that is cause for someone more likely to overtake - potentially on a single road section? Just a thought...

It is a lethal stretch of road though aye.

As you predicted, I am now booked on one. Your report doesn't surprise me and I suppose it's just the perceived benefit of a clean licence that's attracting me. That and the fact that I intend to buy a bit of a licence loser next year so any margin for error will be useful.

I have heard a few attendees eulogising on this driving about in third lark. I assume going slow trumps the environment? The theme I don't like is that attendees seem to be there for speeding in a nsl, yet the course focus seems to be on 20/30/40 mph zones. I go in November.

Isn't the "driving about in 3rd" theory used to help people notice how fast they are going (i.e. it's noisier in 3rd than it is in 4th or 5th)?

That's what my mother told me after her course - then again she has an automatic Jazz which is pretty much silent up to about 60 mph anyway, so it's moot.

Heaven knows how quiet something like a big Jaguar is up to extremely illegal speeds

Its absolutely ridiculous this 3rd and 2nd business they were on about, be ready for it. They bleat about slow = better economy then tell the idiots that 3rd is the future. Err, revs love?

Yes, the noise aspect of 3rd was mentioned a few times. By then I had given up involving myself and just kept going to the loo.

Heres a tip for you Pete, sit in the middle of the group. That way, once you have vented to make a point, you can then sleep. Reason being, they start from either side when getting the group to contribute. Whichever side they started from I just said, 'the others have dealt with my contribution'

Its worth going once to see how bullshit it is.
