I had a classic wagon, back in the days when cheap imports didn't exist and only IT contractors could afford to buy and run them

I still miss it a lot.

Really it's a car any enthusiast should own once - it's a shame they have such a poor image now - well done for seeing past that and giving one a go...I'm sure you'll love it...

The WRX wagon makes a lot of sense.

The ride/handling/NVH compromise and the gearchange are assisted by the boxer four; I'm a real boxer addict and it's the only way to build a FWD/4WD layout effectively. Transverse straight fours are OK for minicars, but really too compromised for much else.

The Saabarus have a much nicer dash, but if you compare that car to an EG Civic (of its time), it's not that much more insipid.

As for image, unless you do go for something innocuous like a Focus or Civic, everything else looks a bit well, pretending to have a lifestyle or something. Fortunately those old Scoobies look only marginally less innocuous, unless badly riced up.

So you'll be OK and the car's worth it from the inside.

[Ignorance]Now, is the wagon the same or similar to the Forester?[/Ignorance]

I've often wondered what these were like Scooby raves about them

Wagon is the 5dr/estate version of the Impreza
Forester is Impreza running gear in a softroader shell

Good write up

Never doubted the Impreza models, the compliant suspension that allows you travel fast over ground which the S2000 would make a meal out of and the ability to get the power down really makes a big difference. The steering great and you always have a good idea what

I'd agree on the torque.

My STi used to absolutely scare the crap out of people - forced you into the seat!

I sold my Impreza because I thought it was too easy to drive and uninvolving after my MR2, but I've learnt a fair bit about handling since then and now realise that I just didn't understand what it was all about.

If it had a manual box, I think I'd be driving the Legacy for the sake of it like I did with my S.

I still don't think 4WD has got any place on the the track, but for a fun road car it makes perfect sense.
