Default Petrol, how much!!!!!!

Passed a Shell station today, unleaded £198.9 and diesel £189.9, just outside Broxburn near Edinburgh, not on a motorway. Dearest I have seen, and, they had customers on the forecourt.

Honda 'e' has cost £48 for 2,700 miles to date charging at home on wee small hours low rate. Mind it goes up 50% shortly from 5p/kWh to 7.5p/kWh

The rest of the house and Ye Gods the bloody swimming pool don't even ask. But you only live once so what the heck.

We are swapping out the solar hot water adding more PV, unknown ROI

It's still far cheaper to take the car than taking public/alternative transport for the most part.
We were looking at a trip to Blackpool (for dancing, not fighting ) recently. The cheapest return on the train/bus for two would be about £220 for the two of us.

It's a round trip of about 460 miles. At 40mpg (easily achievable in the Golf) which is 10.567 miles per litre that's 43.5 litres which at £2 is £87.
Even with other car-related costs, it's still substantially cheaper, and a hell of a lot more convenient - the public transport route is a bus and 3/4 trains - no fun with luggage.
The only possible advantage is that it's probably slightly quicker by public transport on a Friday evening.

My bicycle is getting a lot more use!

If this is accurate it's rather alarming

£75 top up in the boosted S2 replaced 145 miles worth of fuel.. so it's basically a 50p a mile car
the e is 7p. But much slower and with better AC

I'm commuting in my S2000 everyday.. Managing 350-370 miles a tank. Bloody boring, however, can't be arsed to work out the exact mpg but I think it's been quite frugal for a sports car! Probably 34mpg or thereabouts...
