I'm interested in the wait times as well. How long did both of you guys have to wait, and did either of you use Porsche finance's Lease Purchase scheme?

If you shop around you may find a Cayman that meets your requirements...... several of the OPCs have Caymans sat waiting for buyers. Some Cayman buyers on Boxa.net only had to wait around 10 weeks from order to delivery...... Porsche will probably claim that its selling like hot cakes but the reality seems to be less positive (for Porsche).

Well I've got a test drive of one of these coming up on the 16th to see what they are like and whetehr the seating position hurts my hip.

Yours is very nice dude and saw one in that colour in the flesh yesterday, have to admit the metallic black one I was sitting in looked very menacing.

 

I see from an ad in EVO magazine that you can already chip your Cayman up to 317bhp, but perhaps not something most brand new Cayman owners would consider!

Interested about the steering points - I wonder if Porsche have engineered in some de-merits for the cayman just to keep the 911 at the top?

 

Well, there's the smaller engine and no LSD for starters. Given the engine is in the right place, if they'd bothered to do it properly it would have murdered the 911. As posted above, it handles better than a 911 without the LSD. With it, and a bigger engine, Porsche might finally have acheieved what they've been trying to do for 40 years with the 911

It would probably have put them out of business too.

 

There has already been comments that it has been artificially restircted power wise.

There's already proof that a simple intake mod can free up around 13hp (at the wheels) and the exhaust is restictive on purpose.

The 993 3.4 engine put out 299hp without the variocam head!

 

I decided on the options I wanted, which was influenced by a very good article on the best options/colours for highest re-sale.
I then talked to a no of dealers on available new cars, which included cancellation cars, which were nearest to my spec.

My car became available mid-april, and after negotiating price/finance I collected early last week.

Cars ordered to spec have a 3-4 month delivery time, however I know of 6 new cars available at dealers now, which if you're prepared to compromise on options will get you into a car in a couple of weeks.

On the finance side, I negotiated a deal which means my monthly repayment for the Cayman is only

 

It's not really true that the Cayman isn't selling, it's the classic case of internet recycling BS. Caymans the main reason for the record sales figures, see below
I was told 5 months and it came 3 weeks before due date, so just under 5 month wait for me

Record March for U.S. Porsche Sales
ATLANTA, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne SUVs in the United States and Canada, today announced its best-ever March sales in the United States. The company sold a total of 3,185 Porsches, an increase of 14 percent compared to March of 2005. Of this total 1,127 are Porsche 911s, the most ever sold in one month in the United States in the model's history. Year-to-date sales are up 26 percent to a total of 9,117 units compared to 7,219 sold in the first three months of last year.
PCNA has marked record sales in each of the three months of 2006. This remarkable performance was mainly due to sharp increases in sports car sales. The Boxster/Cayman series first-quarter sales of 3,248 units were 85 percent ahead of the same period last year, while the 911 series total of 2,839 units was 23 percent greater than the three-month total in 2005. Cayenne sales in March were up 2 percent compared to the same period of 2005, bringing the first-quarter total of 2,997 units close to last year's three-month volume of 3,093.

Porsche U.S. March sales rise 13.8%

STUTTGART, Germany (AFX) - Porsche AG said sales in the US and Canada rose to 3,363 units, up 13 pct from the year earlier, achieving the best March results in the region to date.

Growth drivers in March were the sports vehicles, with the 911 model adding 14 pct to 1,199 units, while the Boxter added 33 pct to 1,053.

Of the Cayenne, 1,099 units were sold in March, down slightly from 1,102 units the year earlier.

Sports Cars Help Kick Start Sales Momentum ATLANTA, April 3 /CNW/ -- Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA),

States and Canada, today announced March sales in Canada. The company sold a
total of 178 Porsches, on par with sales of 182 units in March 2005, and
nearly twice the volume of last month's sales of 97 vehicles. Year-to-date
sales of 380 units are down 6 percent compared to the first three months of
2005.
While there is still a reduction in the overall numbers, demand for
Porsche sports cars has picked up speed. Boxster/Cayman series sales of 58
units marked a 21 percent increase over the same period last year. Total sales
of the 911 series of 72 units were up 9 units from March of last year, while
total Cayenne sales of 47 units were 23 units less than in March of 2005.
In addition, dealers sold 26 Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned
