Default Policeman with radar-type gun

The question is have I been done (if for the sake of argument I had been going over the limit).

The policeman was parked up on the hard shoulder of the M3, not in a police pull in point. He was holding what looked like the big telephoto lens that you get with cameras. He was not holding it up to his head, rather he held it at chest level and was looking down onto it and then up at the traffic and if aiming at cars.
If I was doing over the limit is that the kind of device where they have to then stop you and give you a ticket or do they now have handheld devices that automatically record your speed and your number plate and a picture (so you are issued a ticket by post) that does not involve stopping you?

I've seen plod hiding under bridges with these.

Saw one many years ago, in fact.

I reacted very quickly and was only doing about 90-95.

So I dunno conclusively what they are.

Handhelds are sooo unreliable, challenge it if you get a tug.

How awful using the hard shoulder - that's incredibly dangerous for him and other road users

Is there a handheld device in existence that means they don't have to stop you there and then but will post you the ticket?? And does it match my description?

I know of one for sure as there was a news article on it last year since it was manufactured in kent. They were trialling it on my local bridges

Unfortunately yes
the results are something like this: http://www.pepipoo.com/LTi2020_timeout.htm

They take a photo and record a dubiously accurate speed to send you a notice of intended prosecution (NIP) later.

If you get a NIP I would fill out this form: http://www.pepipoo.com/NIP_wizard.php

or have a read of the forums: http://forums.pepipoo.com/

The people there are very helpful
