NSX are very expensive now. The later one insanely complex and made in the US so a complete no no for anyone sensible .. it's not a real Honda in my book though I'd prefer it to the same priced Porsche I think

I think the only thing I ended up with was a Lotus. They are very patchy reliability even the Exige S3 but Chris could cope with it, I don't think parts are silly and the key bits are reliable enough

They also start at high £ and go mad though

My boosted S2 is manically quick and fun. You can self fettle to your heart's content but it would probably be hard to sell if I decided to. It's cheap performance, c300bhp/ton and not many ton. I would try a Z4M or the alpine one though.. and the Porsche which you can enhance the looks of. Whatshisface did a Cayman repair and made it look quite cool

Matt Armstrong?

Lotus Elise (Toyota powerplant makes some repairs easier)
Acura NSX (NA1)
Alfa Romeo 4C (this one is the most frightening when considering repairs...modern, expensive and Alfa dealers aren't always common).
Skyline GTR (R32)
These are all great suggestions. NSX and GTR would be tops for me.

NSX would be lovely, but it's way over budget these days. GTR doesn't do it for me. I'm not after ultimate performance, more of a 'manual driving experience', at road speeds, which the GTR probably isn't. As per my previous posts, an Elise is an option in addition to the S, but it couldn't replace it due to long distance comfort and room for going away with the wife. And I've already had the supercharged S2000 and that wasn't for me. It'll be normally aspirated, whatever I get.

Hi Dan, welcome back!

Yeh, F Type has been mentioned. A mate of mine has one and it's a very pretty thing, but the 'fakeness' of the engine noises (pops and burbles) lose their novelty pretty quickly. It's also a big old beast, and probably too capable for real fun on the road (he misses his MX-5 believe it or not!).

The more I've thought about this, the only upgrade car you could possibly buy IMHO, is a 981 S , preferably GTS.
Within budget , pains me to say it - definitely an upgrade on an s2000 in many ways. I reckon Robin pulled a blinder buying one. Not perfect, but almost. And actually many in the Porkington circles, acknowledge it's probably better than a 911 running the same engine.
No IMS, no bore score worries , finely finished and well executed. Superb balance and can be frugal.
Just people might not let you out of junction..

Neighbour who is not a car man bought an F type. Broke already. Exhaust issue.

It is gorgeous but I joined the owners group on FB and it seems they break a lot. The V8 is a beast though so why the **** not? Even if you don't keep it for long the noise is epic

Or if you get a hard on in the locker room there is a 2L ford engined one?

Hope the head is ok mate

Ain't that the truth! Hahaha! It is a fair point. I will drive one (probably an S though - can't stretch to a GTS - they're £40k+, although if it's that good, maybe it's worth waiting).

I think you’re right- 981 S will be an upgrade with a similar purpose vehicle. Just think it operates optimally at a higher rate of speed.

Difficult task to replace the S2000. I am looking at a Boxter 981 Spyder, which is a far 'better' car in all respects, but have realised I can't let my humble S2000 go as it's a unique experience, so will be adding the Spyder whilst keeping the S2000.

Something I'd say is that compared to the S2000, the Cayman is quite tame, the tin top removes you somewhat from the driving experience, whereas the Boxter is essentially the same car but with the excitement of an open-top. I also own a 997 Turbo, but the Boxter is a far more exciting car, so do not exclude it from your testing.

I learned my lesson back in 2007 when I sold my original 54 plate S2000 and got a 911 rag top, the S2000 is an irreplaceable experience, so just ended up buying another one!
