Difficult to calculate the actual benefit, "the tax on the difference between what you claim and what the government recommends" is a good guide - e.g. 25% of 40p - 12p

But in actual fact, they recalculate your taxable pay from the bottom up and give you the refund. In my experience it's close, but it's not exactly the same.

BTW that 12p/mile needs reviewing as Fuel prices change.
My last place did this every month it was at 17p/mile when I left in December.
