It was directed at Neil, who after experiencing some twatish behaviour, retaliated with his own.

Leave them to it, laugh at them, but don't stoop to their level.
The road has a 40mph limit, it's an urban DC. It's a long straight road, so stopping was perfectly safe.

Twatish? *shrug* I was just planning to get out and ask him what the he was playing at, before deciding that if it escalated I didn't really want to go into work looking like I'd just had a fight

What annoyed me the most is that there was no reason for what he did, other than to show me what a sad c**t he is and that's why the red mist descended.

do need to be taugth a lesson.
So by teaching him a lesson I presume the logic is that he'll realise the error of his ways and cease behaving like such a twat? Don't think so. He'll just do it to every sports car he chooses to dislike.

You're better off ignoring them and leaving them for dust with a spot of

I think that might depend on who is teaching the lesson and who is receiving it........

I was with a friend not so long ago, and he accepted the urgings of an aggrieved driver to settle the dispute at the side of the road

It's hard to tell much about the driver until they get out, and the appearance of my friend when he obliged was quite sufficient to bring the matter to an early conclusion ie the other guy drove off

His business is collecting money from people who don't want to pay, and outside the jurisdiction of the courts. This involves eyeball to eyeball confrontations on a daily basis, and probably at least one full-on scrap a month (with or without some kind of weapon) so the threats of a gobby builder were hardly intimidating

Having said that, of course you are right, and getting out of the car is almost always going to be the wrong thing to do, especially if you are a civilian

But the old red mist descends very quickly, as it did with Neil

So although I wouldn't condone what he did, I can see why he did it and also that he didn't start it

We're all wise after the event

Oh dear..............reverse psycology is the way ahead. Pull over lean through their window and plant a huge kiss on their face and say "thanks for making my day"

Drive off whilst they just sit there confused with a great story to tell the kids when they get home. Also they are unlikely to ever do it again!

Trust me this approach HAS been used and works!

;-)

I had a very similar situation (no, not with tongues!) about a week ago, where I was a good few car lengths in front of an imported Previa (Lucida) as we approached the end of a dual carriageway which funnels into a two lane road. The Lucida came right up the inside lane and then just sat there, trying to force me out into oncoming traffic, and I know he'd done it deliberately because when I managed to prise my way back into traffic in front of him (without making him slam his brakes on), he kept flashing his headlights at me. And it was only because I was in a sports car

[QUOTE=Neil.H,Apr 3 2006, 09:28 AM]At some traffic lights, 2 lanes which lead onto a dual carriageway, Zafira in front of me and a white van in front of him. The lights change, most of the cars in the left-hand lane turn off, and we continue - the left lane is empty. I sit for a few seconds hoping they will move over so I can get on my way (I was late) but neither moves and the van is doing 30mph (in a 40). No problem, I will pass them on the inside - as I move and accelerate the Zafira swerves over and blocks me, then sits beside the WV for the whole length of the DC Absolutely no reason for doing this as I hadn't been aggressive, I was simply trying to get past them.....

So, finally a gap appears and I move between them and get alongside the Zafira, to find the driver (a porky 30 something) giving me a big fake laugh clearly thinking he got one over on me So I swerve in front of him and slow right down to a stop, and opened my door - as I was about to get out common sense got the better of me and I decided I didn't need this shit on a Monday morning and I was late as it was (his face was a picture though when he saw my door open ) I get on my way and we exchange hand signals a few times, I tell him what a nice car he has etc etc....

What amazed me is that I did next to nothing to provoke this, I can only assume it was the car that did it (which was looking very after a big Zaino

People who buy Scenic/people carriers have absofeckinlutely no interest in cars or driving.

Now this is the bit I don't get.

If you have no interest in cars why would you do the following:

a) deliberately block in the outside lane
b) get angry because a car dares to overtake you on a clear stretch on single carriageway
c)get angry because someone dares to drive faster than you.
d) a b c usually results in hand gestures, a silly overtake, tailgating,flashing lights

If you want to make progress then this would imply a knowledge/interest of cars/driving.

Which would imply choosing a car capable of handling/accelaration/speed.

Which has nothing to do with money.

So they must just be utterly stupid.
