This was on my shortlist, but the mrs thought it too fugly.

I doubt the fuel economy would have been any better than the RX8.
It wont be but the performance will be far better My Ecutek remapped STI was doing 25mpg on a work run and 30mpg on a long run. 340bhp and 320/Torque.

If there anything like an RX7 expect a rebuild at x miles, no i havent driven one or sat inside one .

I will say they 'used' to look great but somewhat a little dated now, the back end is still relatively nice but i dont like the front.

About 4 years ago i did toy with the idea of getting one .

Much room in the back though?

They always look lopsided at the front to me.

I would have thought too small for 2 kids?

Buy a Zafira

Plenty of room in the back for two kids. Boot space is tight though.

I test drove one once, the high power model of course.

Nice enough to drive but the engine was so linear in its delivery I found it felt very flat and uninvolving.

For me, if I were spending 8k on a car to cart the kids about and have fun it would have to be a scooby and who cares about the image, it's the best car out there to do that - ask MarkB

I've tried to convince myself to look at WRXs... but there are just not me.

A Legacy on the other hand...

I had an rx8 a couple of years ago...

Wasnt particularly quick, went through TONS of fuel, went through TONS of oil, was ok to look at. got bored of it very quickly.
