RX-8
Not sure about the Rotor Tips wearing as you've mentioned, they crack or get damaged if the engine is running under det but not wear...
Flooding can be avoided too.. keep in higher revs when turning the car off.. although you would never imagine it for a car which should be 'modern'
MPG sounds worse than the RX7 which are Twin Turbo..
And RX8 has no turbine? It does have a whine from the eccentric shaft and sometimes whistling from the exhaust ports as well.....
All in all, if I saw this thread in 2009 I would have said not to get one !

It's gone!
I've never had a car that I wanted shot of so badly.
The costs:
- Purchased Dec 2009 £6,400
- Px value May 2011 £2,800 (loads of bad RX8 out there have hit residual value badly)
- No bills otho than running costs in the 12k I put on it, until a CAT damaged by flooding meant it failed the MOT and need a new one
The good points:
- It was a cheap purchase
- It was comfortable
- The handling. The car is well balanced.
The bad points:
- It was dull
- The MPG was pathetic. 15mpg would be fine if I was showing a clean pair of heels to most machines, but the RX8 is not that quick
- The engine. Novelty at first - the turbine wine. But the Wankels are a pain in the arse, prone to flooding (3 times in a year for me) and the rotor tips wear meaning new engine time (mine needed one!)
- The depreciation. £3,600 in a year is nothing to be worried about but I was expecting a better return and had purchased well at time of purchase. The bad points above have really started to hit residuals.
Anyway, it's gone and I've got something new.
And as much as I am happy with the new ride, getting rid of the Mazda heap makes me equally as happy.

Better off with an Alfa GT
My FIL tells me dealer trade-in prices on these from time to time, and they're always scary & at the same time tempting.
EDIT: Not sure if anyone's mentioned, there was a combined S2K / RX8 Herts meet many years ago. They seemed fairly evenly matched on the road. There must be some photos somewhere.... https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/174.../page__st__100
