Big difference.

I assume there's little that can be done about the 'twisties' but a ventolin might change things on the straights.

All depends on wether times are important though Nick.

I bet Simon had just as much fun getting his times as I did mine.

If you play the time game, your best bet is to hire an R300.

I do love out of corner and straight line speed though

Then you need a proper blower, not a half fat diet belt drive one

I've always thought going for monster power (and monster brakes) would just mean you'd become a point and squirt driver and it'd be less fun overall. For me straights are just to pass the time until you get to the next interesting bit. Wasn't that the fundamental design principle of the Elise?

Trackday tyres on the Exige though. How much faster would you have been with the same rubber?

Extra grunt helps you get to the interesting bits in less time then

A good bit. But an S2000 with track rubber aint keeping up with an Exige S.

PS I have a 3:06 somewhere on video

GT3's and CSL's are a bigger step on again.

CSL 25k - not cheap running costs

911 GT3 Mk1, needs nothing for track work, £35k probably slightly cheaper running costs than the CSL.

The Z4M isn't just like a bigger heavier S2000. You should drive one. But again running costs pretty much the same as the CSL.

From that list I'd definitely say Exige.

Just because you get there faster why would you want to take the corner any slower?

There's a very real tendency for owners of mega powerful cars to blast up the straights and then pootle round the corners on trackdays.

Nothing wrong that at all until they start holding up slower cars that are quicker through the corners but can't get past on the straights.

I started off with a low powered Caterham so I didn't get blown away by the acceleration and drawn into bad habits.

Whether it made any difference in the long run I don't know but that's the way I played it.

I got a rare treat at Snetterton last weekend though, there was someone in an AM V8 absolutely on the limit everywhere, I bet his next service won't be cheap
