S2000 replacement ideas

I think we're slightly off topic. As nice and good value for money as an e46 M3 or Sport are. I'm looking for practicality. So 4 or 5 doors.
So what to people think of an A4 Avant (2.0 T FSI)? I know it'll be dull as dishwater to drive (compared to the RWD suggestions).. but I'm seeing a good balance between practicality (estate) and not too large a footprint (so the missus can still park it).
I do limited mileage so petrol engines are fine.

If you don't mind sacrificing RWD I would go for a Mondeo.

I find the BM coupe better for getting a nipper in than missus' golf, you can step into the car in front of them.
And you can get a saloon too cant you? Similar to the Lexus you mentioned but they are like hens teeth arent they?
An A3 is a good motor, if uninvolving. The diesels are the pick but i think the 2.0T is good too.

Update.
Couldn't persuade the missus to go for an Estate (she thinks we're not old enough )
So just put a deposit down on my original idea. Got an IS250 auto in dark grey. Predictably the drive isn't at all engaging (no surprise after the s) and the "semi automatic" paddles seem pointless as you're waiting for what seems like an eternity on changes. Cabin is a nice place to be though, nice and snug (which I'm used to) and it's very tidy. Lets hope if looked after the Lexus reliability is up there with Honda. The biggest reservation I had with the IS is that the rear seats don't go down. Very strange but we'll see how we get along.
Cheers for the ideas! I'm sure I'll still lurk on these forums from time to time. Especially after sunny weekends when I'll miss the roof down vtec country jaunts.
