Default S2000 Sold

Well, after 5 glorious years I've finally sold my beloved S2000.

I've heard it said before by others on here that it was "the best car I've ever owned", and it was for me too.

The great people I've met through attending over 30 meets starting back in 2003, and running 6 Blurter Meets; I think we had 23 cars on one of them! We did the first European Meet, Super Meets, Mega Meets, the first Arran Meet, and the first Woolley Bollard Tour, all fantastic times. We shared all of our European touring trips on this site, visiting some 14 countries in the S.

I did make some minor changes to my car over the years including an HKS, and Invidia exhausts, an induction kit, Ricks manifold and decat pipe and the Oz 18" wheels, and eventually got the car just how I liked it.

I think the special thing about the S is how well it was received generally, as you drove around in the car with the roof down. I've lost count of the number of times people have shouted "nice car mate", and the folks standing at the side of the road waving at us whilst on holiday in the car in Europe.

I loved to look after the car, but I also loved to drive it. My commute is only about 50 miles a week, and in just over 5 years I covered just short of 60,000 miles that's about 50,000 miles of fun.

I stripped the car before the sale and sold all the bits off separately. But without my mods and with my number plate removed the car really didn't feel the same

I would have loved to have sold the car to a fellow enthusiast, but in the end I ended up trading the car in against my new one.

As some of you might have seen, it's a bloody BMW. At 40ish years old it's my first BMW, not because I couldn't afford one, but because I made other choices. I was taking to a friend of mine at the weekend and he said he always wanted to own a BMW. That thought had never crossed my mind. I don't care about it being a BMW, as long as I take pleasure from driving the car.

The Z4 was never really a car I was interested in, but I drove an M3 a couple of years ago and really loved the engine. But the M3 is a 4 seater, not something I need as we can use Kathryns car when more room is required. Then they brought out the Z4M, but it was the Z4 Coupe that really caught my eye, and after a couple of test drives to confirm my thoughts, that is what I have been looking for over the past few months.

That's is until I fitted the hardtop to the S when it went up for sale last month. Since then I have not had the ability to drop the roof and it's something I really do miss. Kathryn was unhappy about losing the soft top too, but really didn't pressurise me and said I could have what I wanted. Before taking the plunge with the coupe I decided I must drive the roadster. Once I did I realised that I could have all the qualities of the coupe, with the bonus of a soft top too. I think the coupe is a stunning looking car, but the driving experience is more important to me than the looks, and for people that enjoying driving with the roof off, driving a coupe does feel like you are missing out on something special.

I'm not going to start comparing the M to the S, it's pointless. The S was a great car for me, and the only criticism I've had over the years is the lack of cruise control on our long Euro trips. I never had a problem with any other aspect of the car, that's why I had it so long, the longest I've owned any car.

The friends I've made on here know that I am a petrolhead, interested in all sports/performance cars. I understand that everyone is different (thankfully), and we each have our own preferences and priorities and different times in our lives. Hopefully the M will be another one of my cars that I remember fondly, along with my XR4i, Capri 2.8, Nissan 200SX, Kathryns CTR, and the S2000.

As I was looking for a coupe I looked at loads of stuff on the internet. Since I got the roadster on Friday I found this review of the car on Top Gear. Whether you like the car or not is one thing, but take a look at the lap by the Stig and there is no doubting it's abilities. Unfortunately with my driving skills, or lack of them, I'll never see performance like that

Anyway, here's a few pics of my new car for those of you that are interested

Thanks for reading.

Congrats! Is it used? Cost? Did you buy it from a dealer?

Dave

Reading your post in full (which is something I seldom do, as many will testify ) has brought a tear to my eye

A BLOODY BMW!!!

Just kidding mate, you enjoy it, I know you will have put a LOT of effort into choosing and buying what is right for you, and I know you'll get a lot out of it.

I do hope you stick around and keep doing Blurter meets, and coming to S meets - you're always more than welcome.

Who knows, when the "S"ucessor comes out for the S, you might be back with us

Nice motor

Not sure about the colour of the seats though - maybe the pictures don't quite do it justice.

I'm not allowed to change the S at the moment or I'd have one of these on the drive

Looks good Dave. From what I can see they seem to be very good value for the performance you get.

Finally!

But a roadster?!!

Only joking Dave - looks good and I'm sure you'll love it.

So what are you doing to it first? Modified CDV? CSLs? Side skirts? Strut brace? Or just getting it resprayed white...?

Oh, and have you signed up to the "dark side" forum yet?
