This a BMW I take it?

Apparently most all BMW suffer from Orange Peel effect, this is because BMW spray their cars so slowly and so thickly at factory. Which is why their paint jobs last so long.

I am sad Burn .

Yesterday I

washed
gay barred
washed
Klasse All in One polish stuff
Autoglym sealent
P21S

Car looked great, and should last for a while too

Went out today for lunch and planned to take some pics afterwards. When I came out of the pub the car was totally covered in dust as it was very windy up here today

A nice feature of the car is hill start assist, were it holds the brake on for you for 2 seconds, so you don't have to use the handbrake on hill starts. I've managed for 20 years without it, but it works and I like it

Engine's not bad either

I think it would be a formidable weapon with you at the wheel Burnie

Hey Dave! Nice choice! What's the hill start? Is that on the 6 speed manual? Not read about that at all.

Okay questions seeing as you have made the move before me!

- Gearbox, what's it like?
- Understeer? - How much? What's initial turn in like?
- Presumably the M Diff allows you to get the back end moving decently - how does it
compare to the S?
- What's the sound like compared to your S? As ours had a similar noisemaker set up?

Thanks Dave!

Mike

All Z4M's are manual. Hill start just as I described earlier. The cars detects you are stopped on an incline and holds the brakes on for two seconds once you take your foot off, so you don't have to use the handbrake in hill starts.

Gearbox is ok. 1st to 2nd isn't great but the rest is ok, but not great. My cars only got 2k on the clock, so should hopefully get better with a few miles.

Understeer and initial turn in - I really haven't had the chance to have a proper blast in the car yet. First impressions are that it feels quite confidence inspiring in the bends. The whole car does have quite a weighty feel to it, but not in a bad way. I would say the geneal ride quality is much the same as the S.

M diff - see above

Sounds - not much really compares to an S with Ricks manifold, decat and an Invidia. It does have a great noise though. Another advantage of the roadster is that you get to hear it better with the roof down

hmmm, I remember many french cars suffered from orange peel for the opposite reason.....

Orange peel means they didn't do it properly, end of. doesn't really matter why.

That'll be the CDV.

What you need is one of these: Modified CDV

I also found one of these helped too: Countersunk Knob

However, you do lose the illuminated gearlever that you seem to like so much...

These Z4M things look appealing. I watched a Top Gear repeat the other day, where Hammodn drove one against the Boxter.

Got a big thumbs up on track.

I have got a Riss Racing CDV (www.rissracing.com) which is identical to the BMW stock part but with a larger opening.

I haven't installed it yet, but I have read some great reviews, and it seems to be the common choice for most E90/E92 owners.

I also find 1st to 2nd clunky and awkward, but after that the gearbox is great.
