S4 or RS4 - help me decide
Hi All
My wallet will stretch to one of the below
Either Audi S4 Avant(53 ish plate) 4.2 V8, Nogaro blue, so newish car(facelift model) and I can get Nogaro blue my ideal choice and lower miles say 30k
OR
Audi RS4 Avant, twin turbo 2.7 - older car say Y reg, higher miles 70K>, limited colour choice

Which would you buy? Im really thinking along the lines of cost of ownership, especially depreciation and servicing - petrol costs not an issue I dont go far! But also there will be some performance difference - though either is going to be quick
THoughts?
Andy

RS Audis tend to hold their value brilliantly; witness the RS2, RS4 and RS6. S4 V8 is a lovely motor, smooth and powerful.
Difficult but good choice you have to make. Individuality and possibly better resale offered by the RS4, and better performance too.
S4 will be cheaper to run and drives a bit better than the RS4. If the RS4 was red or blue, I'd say go for it. Otherwise, pick the S4.

The RS as a car will depreciate a lot less. but I reckon it's getting to be a bit of a timebomb. It's not cheap to fix and chews up brakes like no tomorrow.
I'd probably go for the S4. but both are sweet motors. The RS4 is the quickest thing I've driven in a straight line. BUT whilst doing 140 it feels like you're doing about 70.

I don't think the RS4 will disappoint in terms of power
but it might in terms of feel 9as will most moderns tbf)
much as I like them, I do think that the higher mileage examples of the RS4 are overpriced and are a bit of a timebomb
I'd only go for a pukka low mileage example
if I couldn't get one, I go for a low mileage S4 would be my choice

Surely the difference in power delivery would be enough to differentiate between the two beasts? Do you like the sound and feel of a particularly smooth V8 or do you prefer the coarser sound of the 2.7 with the big whoosh of the turbos? The two engines alone ought to provide a very different driving experience - are they so similar or have you yet to give each one a proper run?
