Bear in mind that it's not really an MG at all. The new MG Rover management bought the rights to it from an Italian design studio (think it was called the Mangusta in its previous guise?), did a bit of reworking to soup it up and hone it, and whacked an MG badge on the front.

I have to say, as much as I'd love MG to do well, if I had

I agree with Dracoro to some extent, because you can just never tell.

My childhood was blighted by the British Leyland cars my dad had as company cars: two Marinas and one Ital. There is no way in hell I'd ever buy a Rover, especially if I could buy a 911 for the same money.

There is a close connection between the design team behind this latest MGRover and that behind the McLaren F1. I wouldn't judge it too quickly... I suspect that a lot of the technology under the skin will be way ahead of the 911-type stuff.

We'll have to wait and see how it performs... I for one hope it does well.

Cheers

I agree. My first ever car was an MGB GT V8 and although it might seem puny by today's standards it was a good car. It's still running today owned by my best man - around 130k on the clock.

I also converted an MGB Roadster to V8 spec and that was a great "Q" car - again still running owned by another mate.

This might be a rebadged Mangusta but let's give it a fair crack of the whip.

I saw this when it was first shown at the motor show in brum, the whole MG stand was full of charvas
seen jezza test drive it on TOP GEAR and wasnt too impressed with it but that wasnt the full on mental version. trim and build quality was suspect tho..so its a typical rover.
