Oh way inferior - Audi interiors are very very good. BMW less so, but Subaru is just "functional" and a little bit agricultural!!

Yep easier to drive from A to B due to AWD, still tricky to drive "well" but for your average Joe Public they're less likely to lose it on "diesel"!

Nearly every accident I have seen has been an Impreza/Evo, most owners seem to assume they can corner at any speed and these things pick speed up fast.

Dreamer is the least stereotypical owner I have ever known of one of these. I thought the crew cut, tatoos and extra few pounds were essential or came free with a stick on air intake.

Mind you she does have the faux-wrc mud flaps

They are always annoying on track days when I'm in the 7 - they blast it down the straight, pootle around the corner, then blast it down the next straight so I can't get past The speed is just so deceptive, I think that's the problem, then people forget they're driving a big lardy car not a little nippy 7!

Heh, the mud flaps are functional, amazing how much crap you get down the side of the car otherwise!

PLus I like them

You'll be horrified by the decals then ! Must sort a pic out today!

Every badly driven Subaru understeers because chav-boy's read the reviews and thinks the car is easy to drive quickly.
It is in a straight line, but that misses 80% of the car's ability. Our Burberry-clad friend thinks that by booting the throttle at turn in, the car will do what he's seen on the Fast and the Furious and give him a nice lairy powerslide out of the corner.
All that happens is the front end pushes on and the car understeers off the circuit/road/roundabout.

What the Impreza needs is to be facing roughly the direction it needs to go, then the throttle can be planted and the car grips and goes like very few others are capable of. Do this too early and you get terminal understeer, get it right and the car gathers speed incredibly quickly but to get it right you need to have a bit of understanding of vehicle dynamics and some finesse - the stereotypical Scooby owner has neither.

Mark - is that more or less what you should do with every rear wheel drive as well?

I got some instruction a few weeks ago and one comment was I was putting the power down too early out of the corner, i.e just after the apex iirc.

The Subaru's are generally driven by people with no class. Dreamer is an exception to the rule.

The mentality (oxymoron) of many Subaru drivers on track appears to be get the feck out of my way/my car is as fast as a GT3 (insert other "supercar" here) - an inverse snobbery if you like that somehow they were smug in choosing a fast car for a fraction of the cost. Clueless.

Yes, I was watching Evo's (rather than Scoobies, but I am sure it is the same principle / problem) at Castle Coombe last year and the poorly driven ones where squealing and understeering horribly through the corners.

To an extent, yes.

Though different factors determine how quickly you can get on the power. Including setup, you can dial out a lot of understeer by playing with dampers, anti roll bars, camber etc. But there is always some consideration for the platform.

Your Beemer has it's engine at the front, my Exige has it over the rear wheels. I can get on the power much sooner in a corner than you can because the weight is already over the rear wheels, you have to allow the weight to come back over the rear wheels after braking for the corner before you can send power to them.
It's one of the reasons even 118bhp Elises are so quick on track, the Beemer will always be compromised in that respect - it wasn't built as a race car.

You'll get there if you listen to instruction. One of the hardest things while learning to drive really quickly on track is waiting to put the power down, it's natural to want to do it as soon as possible.

Regarding Scooby drivers - the car is very fast point to point, but only in the hands of someone who can drive it. That's the bit they choose to ignore I think.
