I would have no problem ending an auction for the right price. Make sure your buyer is genuine first though, that

It's a small point, but I always put the time of sale on the V5 and get the buyer to co-sign it

Prevents any liability dispute arising from an over-enthusiastic drive home or lack of concentration/familiarity with the car resulting in slip such as you describe

We had the same with our Accord - congestion charge on the way home

I always take a scan of the V5 before I send it off
