Default for show

Is it just me...

I don't get this whole 'for show' thing with cars and upgrading/modifying.

Loads of people buying very expensive car parts purely for show rather than for purpose as designed.

I see people on here every week sourcing grooved/drilled rotors and saying they're for street use; painting brake calipers bright colours and adding wings and lips

I just don't understand why people are willing to throw loads of money at things like socks for thier fluid reservoirs and shiny alloy/carbon strut braces when all they'll be doing is street driving.

Not having a go at anyone, I'm just trying to understand why they buy these things, usually at a premium price with a bigname brand written on it.

Am I missing something here, is compulsive moding some sort of dis-order perhaps?

Why do people wear Nike Trainers when they aren’t jogging or Football shirts when they aren’t playing?

Im with you on this Mr Dogmeat, never understood it myself.

I cant imagine it does anything for the value of the vehicle as Im sure most people would only consider purchasing a completely (or near enough) OEM spec car.

That said I suppose if you are going to keep it for a fair few years and you really enjoy adding things then why not I guess?

I like to keep road cars standard but can see the attraction in building/modding a race car/kart/dedicated track day car.

I guess it's about individuality, that's one of the attractions of the S2000, not too many around. Adding subtle changes can improve the looks of the car (personal taste) and also make it more unique.

Each to their own I suppose. You earn the cash, you spend it on whatever makes you happy. If I didn't spend it on the car I'd either waste it on beer, women or even worse, my house (i also save a fair bit each month)!

I'm sure ther people on here have got pastimes that I'd wonder why they waste money on doing (such as having kids, really, whats the point?).

Same as cheggers, if i didn't spend it on the car i'd waste it on holidays - the car is something I can use and enjoy every day, it puts a smile on my face so within reason, I don't mind if i spend a few quid here and there.
