It's not about money

I just remember my friend had a modded Nova, tried to sell it after spending a fortune on it, in the end I think he parted it out as no one would touch it (it was a Nova I guess!)
you never make money back - at best you sell some of the mods on to other people and sell a standard car. You just have to make sure all of the mods are removable.
There is no point at all selling a modified car UNLESS you find that one special buyer who wants it as it is and will pay what it's 'worth' to you as it is.

Like I said it's not about the money. I guess I am quite lucky that I have the car just for enjoyment and generally only use it at the weekend. I don't know anyone who gets "their money back" on a car anyway. It's a hobby as well so time spent doing a bit of fettleing and spending some cash on bits, I find very enjoyable - you can't take it with you you know!
OP - Have you ever taken something a bit shabby and turned it into something you're really proud of? Both cars I've owned were a little tired in certain areas, and required some TLC...the feeling of satisfaction through something you have done is brilliant.
There is a limit to all of this however, and some do go OTT.

I see your point though and I can understand the idea of it being a hobby/pastime.
Perhaps its the Yorkshireman in me but anything I did to a car (or anything else for that matter) would need to be for purpose. I'd want to know I was actually using the item in question as it was designed for.
I just thought I'd throw this topic out to see what others thought or if it was just me who does'nt get it
Here are the changes I have madeMuz Leather cover for the tunnel
Muz mats
Clear side indicators
Muz knob
OEM lip
Veilside spoiler
Removed headlight washers
17" OEM wheels refurbed anthracite and diamond cut
Mickeys grill
All have a purpose even if it just looks nice

I guess I should offer my perspective!
I've spent ~£43k getting an S to the level mine is.
Some bits have been transferred from car to car.
That figure includes the purchase of the current car.
I like to think very little of that has been "bling" for the name.
I have bought cheap bits and had issues so I have tried to get good deals on decent kit.
I enjoy the "tinkering" and having an individual car, but not one that stands out for the wrong reasons.
I love the S with 400 BHP and worthwhile suspension improvements.
I'm sure some of you know I have a disorder for trying to buy sports cars

I love the S and so far I have not found a worthy replacement with out spending ALOT more than I have on the S
