Don't get a 206 - Kate had one when I met her, it used to cut all the electrics randomly (including the power steering) and was made of tin cans. Hateful little car.

She's got a CR-V now, which she's thinking of trading in for a Jazz, but I think they might be still out of your price range. I'd definitely fo Japanese in a small car though, they build them so well. Bit dull I guess, but I'm assuming your dirlfriend doesn't want to be having to fix it all the time.....

If she can stretch to one, she cannot get a better car than a Suzuki Swift for the money. I drove one recently and was amazed how good it was. I drove a grey one with a black roof and it was really stable, comfortable and I must admit a bit of a looker.

Is a blue one likely to be any less stable

Had a similar thing a few weeks back, due to changing job it wasn't worth her having such an expensive car sitting about doing nothing apart from depreciating!

We looked at Smart roadsters, Clio's, Ibiza's, Leon's and Golfs.

We traded down from her DC5 to this:-

30k mile Polo GTI

In four weeks we have brought a new set of coilovers, some wind deflectors and some wheels off ebay!

Only emotionally.

I read on here a while ago that the Yaris is as bad as the S for aqua-planing and handling in the wet as the S due to the Bridgestones on it. IIRC the poster believed it was quite easy to put them into the undergrowth.

I just can't remember who posted that
