Had a similar thing a few weeks back, due to changing job it wasn't worth her having such an expensive car sitting about doing nothing apart from depreciating!

We looked at Smart roadsters, Clio's, Ibiza's, Leon's and Golfs.

We traded down from her DC5 to this:-

30k mile Polo GTI

In four weeks we have brought a new set of coilovers, some wind deflectors and some wheels off ebay!

Very nice looking small car - really like this version of the Polo

Try a Mitsubishi Colt -it's a bit like a Jazz, only cheaper. Blue one here http://www.cargiant.co.uk/cars/detail.asp?Id=321160 Slightly over budget, but if you look around, I'm sure you could find something.

If she can stretch to one, she cannot get a better car than a Suzuki Swift for the money. I drove one recently and was amazed how good it was.

Fabulous car - and better than the current Mini IMO.

Its worth a test drive at least
