I still miss my EK4. Daft as it sounds, I would have one again in a heartbeat. It was close to an FN2 in terms of performance, dirt cheap to run and immensely practical and great fun. I know I'll own one again one day, probably with a K20 swap.

I enjoy reasonable turbo lag, I was surprised how characterful the FK2 is, kinda felt like a big turbocharged DC2 but a lot more comfy. I'm intrigued as to what the FK8 will be like. All the talk of it being more grown up worries me a bit, the reason I love the FK2 so much is simply because it isn't grown up, same with the S2000 and EK Vti I loved so much.

Some of the improvements sound very encouraging though, especially that they've fixed the understeery dynamics of the FK2

I found the FK2 very balanced and composed, but with real agility and light footedness. Work the diff on the FK2 and it's mental. My only gripe is that R mode trips the car up on anything but a very smooth road, but when you're on that smooth road, it's brutally quick and thoroughly entertaining.

OP, a little left wing but 30 grand could get you a nice UK Mustang V8? Then apply some Roush go faster bits further down the line?

I do appreciate it's a massive change from an S though.
