Speed Camera warning France
just returned from a two week stint inthe S/france had a mighty shock when I got flashed by a speed camera on the A7 motorway between Valence and Orange on the way down, never seen them there before, but after the flash I did star seeing the signs for them, my fault should have been watching but I have never experienced speed cameras in France before and I go most years. on the way home I got another double flash form a side of the road "camera" which warned you of danger presumably if doing more than the prescribed 130km/h which just about everyone was, I just happened to be on the outside lane cruising past most things. anyone know whether I am going to recieve a ticket in the post ? and whether I will have to respond ?
just a side note my battery went totally flat on arrival and I used my breakdown assistance to arrange a new Honda Battery for me, they contacted the nearest Honda garage for me (Toulon) and had some difficulty in explaining to them that the S2000 was car not a motor bike, presumably they dont sell any of these cars down there, is this why I have never seen a french registered one? . they finally accepted the eng No and told me they could get one on spcial order, I found it easier to go the local "Halfords" and buy the nearest fit.

Try this site, has some info on fines etc. as well as lists of where the radar sites are:

Grahamb knows all about speeding in France.
Most of the static cameras have signs about 1 km before you get to them warning you, they usually have 'Controle Radar' written on them, you can't miss them.
If you do get pulled over the standard fine is 90 Euros unless that is you are doing 50+km over the limit then they can confiscate your car and ban you from driving in France for 15 days, right there on the spot.

I'm sure I got flashed on by the same one as Graham. Talking to Graham it looks like it acts as a trigger for the plod to come and get you rather than issuing tickets by post.
They alos time you between toll booths

On the battery thing most French Honda dealer never see an S200o there are only 350 registered in France as opposed to 7500 in the UK!
I'd forgotten about the toll booths Mikey, apparantly one of their favourite tricks is to hide behind the larger toll boths and zap you with their radar gun as you approach, so slow your speed down as you approach.
Also if you see signs on the motorway saying 'Gendarmerie prochaine sortie' keep your speed sensible. This is where we got caught out I think as we all went hooning past the Gendarmerie which put frenchies nose out of joint and thus being chased by coppers on bikes, well the ones amongst us who they could catch
