Default speeding ticket abroad...

Oh well, have held my licence for 10 years now, the last 8 of them being in what the average joe would call fast roads cars (or at least fun road cars), so i guess it was inevitable that the day would come when i got caught out...

sadly i was not having fun...just a mere 80 on a motorway....sadly in cyprus, the limit being 65, the plod was not particulalry forgiving, perhaps as i was pootling along, roof down in a 911....

The other victim in the 'queue' was a rather nice Audi R8...the clapped out old 3 series screaming past me at the time was left to go about his business and i recieved a 50 Euro slap on the wrist.

bad times.

Phil,

50 euros is good going!!

I was caught doing 80mph in a 50mph and had to attend court (didn't realise they had reduced the limit - bugger all signs but the judge didn't care - kangaroo court!!)

I got the equivilant of a £100 fine & walked away. They banned me from driving in Cyprus for 30 days but because they have such an archaic police record system, i.e. paper files, that they will never trace you again.

I drove home from court!!

have picked up 4 x tickets in France Belgium in the last few years _ all "on the spot fines" of around €50, infinitely better than points etc... long may our European incompatability continue for that alone....

agree that 50E is a light touch, just a tad annoying....65 is VERY slow on an empty straight motorway under clear blue skies....

They have picked up on a few neat tricks from out lot tho, hiding under the shadows of a bridge about 1/2 mile along the straight after a VERY steep hill....easy to pick up 5-10 mph, but hey, i was speeding and so got caught...

we live and learn.

I had one in Spain recently for 100 Euros. I haven't decided whether or not to pay it yet.

€30 for overtaking where I shouldn't have - long live on the spot fines.

beware, in Scandanavia the fines system is based on how fast you are going and the amount you earn. There is a European Gum Ball Rally story / legend / urban myth of someone who off the chart for both speed and amount he declared he earnt (nice conversation regarding car, what he did for a living and so on with Mr Officer, silly boy) ended up with a 6 figure fine ... the next time he was stopped he claimed to be a mechanic and ended up with a 4 figure fine.
