Default Speeding Tickets

Hey guys and gals,

I'm from the states and my girlfriend lives in Iver and she has received 2 speeding tickets in the past month. The first for doing 35mph in a 30mph zone, the second for doing 40mph in a 30mph zone. She wants to know if their's any way of avoiding penalty points by paying a fine. Because she's looking at 6 points and she's a new driver so they would take away her license.

I've googled and have only come across New Drivers Act information.

Is this something worth hiring legal help and attempting to get it dismissed?
We can usually get tickets dismissed here in the states by taking defensive driving and get the tickets off our record.

Any help would be appereciated, she's really freaking out and making my life hell, y'all know how that goes, if she ain't happy, you ain't gonna be happy.

Thanks.

Nope, you don't pay more of a fine to avoid points, it's both.

However, some areas will offer a day's course as an alternative to points (you have to pay for it) but it's not something you can ask for. You have to hope they'll offer it.

Best thing she can do is say you were driving on one of the instances .

6 points and your out is actually one of the best laws i have seen introduced to motoring in the last 10 years .

You see way too many young drivers hurtling around without due care and attention , and i have to say , it appears mostly to be young girls on their phones nowadays .

grahamb and Busamav, thank you for your advice.

I completely agree with you Busamav, but just going a few mph over and risking your license is really harsh.

here in the states on our massive motorways, everyone does 15 over and we pass the police and they don't really bother. anything over 20 is when the come after you.

on side streets, 5 over is acceptable, 10 or more they will come after you.

big difference between going just a few over when no traffic is around and wreckless driving.

Its the same over here , you can happily sit on 85 without having to worry a great deal , just dont take the pi$$ when you see them .

30 mph limits are strictly enforced
.

I do believe that inexperienced drivers are a liability at anything over the speed limit , unfortunately they just dont have the awareness that only comes from experience .

thats why this 6 points and out law was bought in for new drivers.

I used to hound my kids to make sure they didnt get caught out by it , as it involves retaking your tests , which is an incredible inconvenience.

Just to prove what a miserable old git i am , I witnessed my son driving like a complete idiot in his first month of driving , I followed him to his destination and just confiscated his car . End of problem

*Before you do this, ask to see any evidence they have*

If she says you were driving when they have photos of her at the wheel she will be in much deeper trouble than a driving ban.

As NeilH says , that would be a problem for her

true, that's why i asked her if the pic shows just her plates or her aswell.
our cameras show a blurry pic of the driver and passenger, but we only have cameras at the stop lights for red light runners. we don't have them in a middle of the street to bust you on.

she can't say i was driving since i haven't been to england for the past 6 months, i told her if the pics show a plate only, pay a mate a 100 quid for them to take the fall.

busamav, please tell me you busted your son with his friends and you recorded it!

she's only 23 and has been driving a year now, i'm 24 and have been driving for 9 years, we use to get our permits at 15 here and license at 16, i think it has now changed to 17. she would definately do the wrong thing in a panic situation, her reflexes are pretty bad to begin with and throw her behind a wheel is scary, fortunately she usually takes the bus and tube 90% of the time anyways and is scared to drive.
